Picking the Perfect Mat

You've finished your latest masterpiece, and now it is time for framing. Using a mat around an art piece both protects the glass from touching the art, but also enhances your art by giving your eyes the needed breathing room between art and frame without cutting off your art. It can help accentuate and draw your eye to the focal point of your piece. But what color should you choose? Try squinting your eyes in front of your piece and note what the prominent color is. That color would be a good option to start with. White is the most common mat color used, and if you are framing a number of pieces together it can be a great way to unify them. Using a crisp white mat can add height and width to your pieces while still letting your focus on each separate piece. Don't skimp on size.
