Luck of the Irish

Luck of the Irish

Bring some St. Patty’s Day spirit to your classroom! Get out the green, and get ready to party!

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th. This holiday lends itself to a whole bunch of classroom fun! And you’re in luck because we’ve come up with some ideas and downloadable templates to make getting ready for this holiday even easier!

Irish Projects for the Classroom

You can start by having your students identify where Ireland is on the globe and talk about the colors of the Irish flag, which inspire all of the green on St. Patrick’s Day. For a simple coloring project, have your students cut and decorate the four leaf clover templates we’ve provided!

Irish History and Tradition Projects

Ireland has a rich history of folklore. Explore Irish traditions and the myths of the leprechaun with your class. The leprechaun is a mythical old man who enjoys partaking in mischief. He is said to be a shoemaker who stores his gold coins in a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It is believed that the leprechaun has magical power to grant three wishes to anyone who catches him. Perfect inspiration for a creative writing project! Have your students write stories about how they caught a leprechaun. Ask the students to think about what three wishes they would make! We have provided downloadable templates with Irish icons you can print and have the students color to go along with their stories.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
